On my first trip, I followed the classic itinerary — the one 98% of visitors take. I came home frustrated, with the sense of having missed the essence of the place.
It was chance encounters with locals that changed everything. They shared their own Japan with me: forgotten villages, living traditions, hidden landscapes.
Four years ago I decided to settle here, learn the language, and travel the archipelago for months on end. After ten years of exploration, we have woven a singular network of local partners across the country.
